Mindset Provides Gauteng Education Channel

On the 30th May, the Gauteng Department of Education MEC, Ms Barbara Creesy, launched an innovative new broadcast television channel for the province at Ibhongo High School in Soweto.

Mindset and Sci-Bono have been piloting the channel on behalf of the GDE since February 2013 with an initial focus on supporting Grade 8 and 9 Mathematics learners and teachers.

Live lessons are broadcast twice a week for each grade from Mindset's studio's in Randburg with teacher development broadcasts happening every Tuesday and Thursday afternoon. All lessons are recorded and delivered to Video-on-Demand decoders for later viewing by teachers and learners.

The satellite bandwidth required for these broadcasts has been donated by Intelsat.

At the launch the MEC confirmed plans to equip another 385 schools with receiving technology by the end of 2013 as well as the potential to expand the broadcasts to support additional subjects and grades.

Mindset is very proud to be working with the GDE to provide this unique and innovative educational broadcast solution.
