# Grade 11 Physical Science Lessons

 Video Description Lesson 1: Forces Xtra Gr 11 Physical Sciences: In this lesson on Forces we define the concept of a force. We prepresent forces using vector diagrams. We solve problems when two or more forces acting on an object. Finally, we identify different forces including friction and the normal force. Lesson 2: Newton's Laws Xtra Gr 11 Physical Sciences: In this lesson on Newton's Laws we examine different types of forces. We review and apply Newton's Laws of Motion. Finally, we use Newton's Laws of Gravitation to solve problems. Lesson 3: Chemical Bonding In this lesson on Chemical Bonding we focus on the following: Bonding, covalent bonding, electronegativity in covalent bonding, shapes of molecules, polar covalent substances as well as bond energy and strength. Lesson 4: Intermolecular Forces In this lesson on Intermolecular Forces we compare intramolecular forces and intermolecular forces. We identify types of intermolecular forces. Finally, we identify the relationship between the state of substances and the intermolecular forces present. Lesson 5: Investigating Light In this lesson on Investigating Light we explain what light is, where light comes from and why it is important. We identify what happens when light strikes the surface of different objects. Finally, we explain the processes of reflection, refraction, total internal reflection and diffraction. Lesson 6: Light Calculations In this lesson on Light Calculations we use the relationships between frequency, wavelength and speed in light calculations. We use Snell's Law to calculate the speed of light through various media, the angle of refraction, the critical angle and the refractive index of materials. Lesson 7: Kinetic Theory of Gases In this lesson on Kinetic Theory of Gases we focus on the following: the kinetic molecular theory, pressure, volume and temperature relationships, properties of an ideal gas as well as deviation from ideal gas behaviour. Lesson 8: Chemical Calculations In this lesson on Chemical Calculations we focus on the following: Chemical formulae, percentage composition, relative atomic mass, mole, law of conservation of mass and law of constant proportion. /td> Lesson 9: Electrostatics In this lesson on Electrostatics we focus on the following: Electrostatics and types of charges, electric fields, properties and strength, conservation of charge, Coulomb's Law of electrostatics, electrical potential energy and potential difference. Lesson 12: Energy and Chemical Change In this lesson Energy and Chemical Change we focus on the following: Activation energy and activation complex, the energy profile of a reaction, enthalpy as well as endothermic and exothermic reactions. Lesson 13: Chemical Reactions Xtra Gr 11 Physical Sciences: In this lesson on Chemical Reactions we look at redox reactions, direct transfer of electrons, rules for assigning oxidation numbers, acids and bases theories, common acids and bases, general chemical equations of acids with different compounds and finally look at indicators. Lesson 14: Chemical Systems In this lesson on Chemical Systems we focus on the following: Exploiting the lithosphere, mining in South Africa, extracting metals from ores, the cost of mining, the effects of mining, gold mining, mining iron, phosphate mining as well as energy sources. Lesson 15: Physics Consolidation Xtra Gr 11 Physical Sciences: In this Physics Consolidation lesson we focus on summarising what you need to know about Mechanics, Light, Newton's Laws of Motion as well as Electricity and Magnetism. Lesson 16: Chemistry Consolidation In this consolidation lesson on Chemistry we focus on the following: Types of reactions, chemical bonding, chemical calculations and chemical systems.
