In lesson five , we look even more closely at newspaper articles, to consider the choice of words in the articles and the effects these have. We define connotation and denotation and examine words for their neutrality or their positive and negative connotations. As the ability to detect language that is emotive or “loaded” is so important to critical reading, ensure that your learners are able complete simple examples before requiring them to complete the task, or showing the next lesson.
