Theme

Identifying the theme and message is by far the hardest part of studying a novel. In this lesson we explore some of the themes and messages in the novel Because Pula Means Rain and we give some pointers that can be applied to other novels. After you have shown this lesson to your class you could give them further practise by encouraging them to share what they think are the themes and messages from other novels they have read. Encourage them to select passages from the text that support their choices.
