It is easy to see how point form and selective summaries are used in the classroom, but they have great relevance in our day-to-day lives as well. Note-taking is very similar to point form summarising. It is a skill that you will use throughout life when you attend meetings and lectures. To provide learners with an opportunity to record notes while someone talks, ask them to take notes at an assembly or at a speech given by a guest speaker.
